The Philosophy of a Vacation

A vacation is an escape from reality. Reality is work, household chores, finances, kids and home, not necessarily in that order. Who you are defines the kind of vacation that appeals to you.

  • Laidback person will likely enjoy relaxing at a beach, while doing nothing much at all
  • Disciplined people prefer a time table bound vacation to a touristy destination. Each day and each hour is planned out meticulously and all sights are seen, all eating joints are explored. A travel planner works wonders for them
  • The ambitious sort like to explore exotic spots that are part of a bucket list
  • The adventurous sort take on a new challenge such as trekking, mountain climbing, etc.
  • Those filled with envy will choose a spot that someone else in their social media circle has been to

I fall in the ambitious category. I like to explore the sights and sounds of places that I have not been to before.

  • I use public transport in the cities so I can get a flavor of life as it is for the locals
  • I like to look around in public spaces and, influenced by one of the movies I have seen, see an imaginative board on top of each person, with my impression of what may be going through their minds
  • I like to look at museums and learn more about the history of the city and increasingly, of the world and be amazed at the collections of the museum
  • I prefer being somewhat disciplined in maintaining timings although that is almost impossible to do when traveling with kids

How about you? Which category would you fall into? Are there more categories that come to mind? What’s your story?

Residing in the United States, I am a Techie by profession and a thinker and doer by birth. I muse about any topic under the sun and love to share my thoughts in print when I am not doing something with them. I love reading and at some point, thought that maybe others would like to read what I have to write, too!
